About Trekking
Trekking is one of the few corporate formats that contains no competition. There is no winner, no times are recorded and no teams are formed. People walk and talk — and the effect on familiarity within a team is higher than expected, which makes it the right answer for a group looking for a meeting away from competition after an intense period.
The two-route rule
The spread of fitness in corporate groups is wide. On a single route either the fast are bored or the slow are overwhelmed and separate from the group. Every programme therefore plans two routes: an easy one (6-8 km, low gradient) and an intermediate one (12-15 km with climbing). Both start and finish at the same points with a shared break in the middle of the day.
This matters most when the group is not yours to assess. You cannot ask forty people from six offices about their fitness without it becoming an issue, and a single route will strand somebody. Two routes with a shared start, lunch and finish mean people self-select privately and nobody is visibly on the wrong one. Guiding is available in English.
Three scales, by distance
- Half day, inside the city. Belgrad Forest is within Istanbul, 40 to 60 minutes from the central business districts. This is the only genuine nature programme that attaches to a city-based agenda without removing something else from it — the answer when the brief is "we want nature but we only have a morning".
- Full day, around the city. Orienteering or team tasks extend the walk across a full day.
- Residential, national park. Regions such as Kazdağları sit four to five hours from Istanbul and two and a half to three from Izmir, so at least one overnight is needed. Routing an incoming group through Izmir shortens the transfer considerably.
Winter: the colleague who cannot ski
Companies planning a winter event meet the same problem everywhere: most of the team cannot ski, and a trip to a resort leaves a large share in the hotel lobby. A snowshoe walk solves it — wide-surfaced shoes distribute weight so you do not sink, they are learned in a few minutes, and anyone who can walk can take part.
For colleagues based in the Gulf, North Africa or the warmer Mediterranean, snow is not a backdrop but the activity itself, and it asks no skill of anyone. Kartepe sits roughly 90 minutes from Istanbul, so a team already in the city for meetings can do this and be back the same evening. If snowfall is insufficient the same route becomes a forest walk with the same guide — which removes most of the cancellation risk from a winter programme.
Season and visual output
October to November is the most favourable period for walking in Turkey: the summer heat has passed and the winter rains have not started. The turning of the forest is also the most productive time of year photographically, which directly increases the internal communications output. In wet periods the path routes are muddy and surfaced lines are used instead.
Safety and equipment
Certified guides with a responsible person at the front and back of the group, a first aid kit and team, and radios for areas without phone signal. A health declaration is taken at registration and footwear advice is sent in advance — ankle-supporting boots are the critical item and trainers are not adequate outside the easy routes. Send that list with the invitation, because people packing for a business trip will not have brought them.
Frequently asked questions
Can colleagues with low fitness take part?
The easy route (6-8 km, low gradient) is planned for exactly them. The pace is set to the group by the guide and rest stops are more frequent. Because both routes start and finish at the same points, nobody feels separated from the group.
What equipment is needed?
Ankle-supporting walking boots are the critical item and participants are told in advance — important when people are packing for a trip. Layered clothing, water, a hat and a waterproof are recommended. Trainers can be sufficient on the easy route but not on graded or residential ones.
Where does it take place?
It depends on the city: Belgrad Forest and Polonezköy around Istanbul, Kızılcahamam and Soğuksu around Ankara, the foothills of Uludağ in Bursa, Kazdağları in the Aegean. The route is chosen by group size and travel time.
Can it be done in winter?
Yes. Snowshoe walking is designed for colleagues who cannot ski and anyone who can walk can take part — and for a group from a warm-climate market, the snow itself is the experience. If snowfall is insufficient the same route becomes a forest walk with the same guide.
Half day or residential?
City routes such as Belgrad Forest fit into half a day and attach to an existing agenda. National park programmes such as Kazdağları need at least one overnight because of transfer time and are moderate to demanding; they are not the first choice for a group with very low fitness.
What happens if it rains?
In light rain the walk continues with appropriate equipment on surfaced lines rather than paths; in heavy rain or storms the route is changed or the programme postponed. The decision is taken by the guide 24 to 48 hours beforehand.
Is there competition or timing?
None. There is no winner, no times are recorded and no teams are formed. That is where the value of the format comes from: it suits teams looking for a meeting away from competition after an intense period.
What group size does it suit?
6 to 60 people. For larger groups the two routes run in parallel with a separate guide for each, and a responsible person walks at the front and back of every group.
