About Paragliding

Paragliding is the corporate experience with the highest "I will never forget this" rate and the highest cancellation risk; both come from the same cause — the weather. In a tandem flight the participant sits in front of the pilot and does nothing; no experience, skill or fitness is needed. But if the wind is wrong in direction or speed there is no flight, and that decision is the pilot's. This page tells both truths, because it is the only way to put paragliding into the right programme.

Two flight sites

Babadağ (Ölüdeniz, Fethiye). One of the best-known tandem sites in the world: launch pads at 1700 and 1965 metres, cable-car access, a 25–40 minute flight over the Ölüdeniz lagoon and a landing on the beach. High altitude and long flight time set Babadağ apart. Twenty minutes from Fethiye and Ölüdeniz hotels; part of a two-day adventure programme with Saklıkent canyon, and reachable through Dalaman airport, which has direct flights from many European cities in season.

Pamukkale (Denizli). A 15–25 minute flight over the travertines and the ancient city of Hierapolis; a route facing not the sea but an ancient city. Inland, a short distance from Denizli airport and Pamukkale hotels. Chosen for incentive programmes that include an Aegean tour and for groups wanting a one-day experience.

How a group is managed

A tandem flight is individual; the group is managed by flight order. Four to six tandems can launch from one pad in 10–15 minutes; a group of 30 completes in two to three hours, participants going up by cable car in turn while those who have landed wait on the beach. So paragliding is not a "group event" but an experience a group has individually and talks about together on the beach. Groups above 60 are split over two days. Flight photos and video (from the pilot's camera) are taken as standard and given to the team. Pilots brief in English.

The weather rule

Paragliding depends on weather more than any other format on this site. The flight decision is made by the pilots in the morning; if unsuitable it is postponed to the afternoon, and if that is unsuitable, to the next day. So paragliding goes on the first day of a residential programme, never the last — the next day stays as a backup window, and for a group flying home we plan around it. What is refunded on cancellation is written in the contract; typically the flight fee is refunded in full, transport and accommodation are not. Season April to November; June to October is the most stable period at Babadağ.

Who it is for, safety

No experience, skill or fitness is needed; running five to ten steps at launch and standing at landing is enough. The weight limit is 25–110 kg and goes on the invitation. Fear of heights, curiously, disappears in flight for most participants — the fear is at the moment of launch, not in the air. Pilots are licensed and experienced; equipment (helmet, harness, reserve parachute) is provided. A health declaration is mandatory: no participation with heart conditions, epilepsy, in pregnancy or with serious back or knee conditions. Alcohol before the flight is forbidden. Participants need closed shoes, long trousers and a windproof jacket; the launch site is 10–15 degrees colder than the beach.

Where it sits in a programme

The right format for sales incentives (top-performer groups), leadership retreats and anniversary celebrations that promise a "once in a lifetime" experience — and one of the strongest reasons an international incentive group chooses Turkey. It is not for a 100-person company day. For teams wanting the same adrenaline in the city without weather risk, climbing and go-karting are alternatives; for a height experience with wider participation, the zipline is an outdoor day station.

Frequently asked questions

Is experience needed?

No. In a tandem flight the participant sits in front of the pilot and does nothing; running five to ten steps at launch and standing at landing is enough. The weight limit is 25–110 kg and goes on the invitation.

What if the weather is bad?

The flight decision is made by the pilots in the morning; if unsuitable it is postponed to the afternoon, then to the next day. So paragliding goes on the first day of a residential programme, and for a group flying home we keep a backup window. On cancellation the flight fee is refunded in full; transport and accommodation refunds are in the contract.

Babadağ or Pamukkale?

Babadağ (Ölüdeniz): high altitude (1700–1965 m), a 25–40 minute flight and the lagoon view; 20 minutes from Fethiye hotels and reachable via Dalaman airport. Pamukkale: 15–25 minutes over the travertines and the ancient city; inland, part of Aegean tours. Both include pilot and equipment.

How long does a group of 30 take?

Four to six tandems launch from one pad in 10–15 minutes; 30 people complete in two to three hours. Participants go up by cable car in turn and those who have landed wait on the beach. Above 60 it is split over two days. Photos and video are standard.

What about fear of heights?

The fear is mostly at the moment of launch, not in the air; for most participants it disappears in flight. Nobody is pushed; anyone who does not want to fly meets the group on the beach. The zipline is a height experience with wider participation.

Health restrictions, and what to bring?

A health declaration is mandatory: no participation with heart conditions, epilepsy, in pregnancy or with serious back or knee conditions. Alcohol before the flight is forbidden. Closed shoes, long trousers and a windproof jacket; the launch site is 10–15 degrees colder than the beach.
