About Pedal Boat

The pedal boat is the one corporate water format with a technical threshold of zero. No paddle grip, no balance, no standing up, no capsizing; you sit in the boat, pedal and steer. That makes it the safest water option for groups with no sporting background, hesitation about water, a wide age range or family participation. "Everyone can take part" is not marketing on this page; it is the definition of the format.

What makes it an event

Pedalling on its own is not an event; what turns a pedal boat into a corporate format is the race and task design. Two- or four-seat boats are split into teams, a buoyed course is set on the lake and tasks are given at checkpoints: collecting flags, most points within a time limit, two boats moving side by side in sync, "blind pilot" (the steerer's eyes closed, the neighbour directing — a good one for a mixed-language group). The race is won by decisions, not legs — route choice and task order matter more than pedalling speed.

Where it happens

For Ankara teams, Lake Mogan at Gölbaşı is 25 kilometres from the city centre and the natural venue for a half-day event; given how few water-sport options Ankara has, this is a real asset for a team based in the capital or visiting it. For Istanbul, Lake Sapanca; for İzmir, coastal bays; for Bursa, the Uluabat area. A facility with a boat fleet is essential; we do not bring boats, we hire the facility — so the location list depends on facilities. Transfer from the hotel or office is part of the quote.

The half-day flow

  • Assembly and briefing (20 min). Buoyancy aid, boat handling, course and task cards, in English.
  • Team setup (10 min). Mixed teams across departments and offices; two to four people per boat.
  • Course and tasks (60–75 min). Checkpoints, scoreboard visible on the shore.
  • Final race (15 min). Short distance, all boats at once; the most photographed part.
  • Refreshments, awards and close (30 min).

Who it is for

Family days (children in the same boat as parents), staff days for factories and production sites, administrative teams with a wide fitness range and HR teams that say "we want a water sport but everyone must be able to join". For fit teams that want a challenge, canoeing or SUP is the better choice; the pedal boat feels light to them. In a three-station water day (canoe + SUP + pedal boat) everyone is comfortable at one station and stretched at another.

Season, safety and health

May to October; the pedal boat does not get you wet, so it works in the cooler months of May and October too — the longest season of any water sport, which widens the window for a visiting group. Above 15 knots of wind it is postponed; decision time and backup date are written into the contract. Buoyancy aids on everyone, a safety boat on the course, first aid on the shore. A health declaration is requested but limitations are few: anyone with a knee condition takes the steering role instead of pedalling. No change of clothes is needed; sun protection and a hat are.

Frequently asked questions

Can everyone really take part?

Yes; that is the definition of the format. No paddling, balance, standing up or capsizing; you sit, pedal and steer. No swimming is required and buoyancy aids are mandatory for everyone. On family days children ride in the same boat as their parents.

Is just pedalling an event?

No; the race and task design make it one. A buoyed course, tasks at checkpoints (collecting flags, moving in sync, blind pilot), a scoreboard and a final race. It is won by route choice and task order, not pedalling speed — which levels the field in a mixed group.

Where is it done?

At facilities with a boat fleet: Lake Mogan at Gölbaşı near Ankara (25 km from the centre), Lake Sapanca for Istanbul, Aegean bays for İzmir, the Uluabat area for Bursa. We do not bring boats, we hire the facility; transfer is in the quote.

Do we get wet?

No; the pedal boat is the only water format that does not get you wet. So no change of clothes is needed and it works in the cooler months of the May–October season too. Sun protection and a hat are needed.

Is it too light for a fit team?

Yes. For teams wanting a challenge, canoeing or SUP is the better choice. In a three-station water day (canoe + SUP + pedal boat) every participant is comfortable at one station and stretched at another.

How many people, and how long?

12–60 people; two to four per boat. Half a day (2.5–3 hours): briefing in English, course and tasks, final race, refreshments. Above 15 knots of wind it is postponed; decision time and backup date are written into the contract.
