Overview

Rafting is one of the few corporate formats where synchronisation is not optional. There are six people in a raft and the guide gives the calls: forward, back, stop. A single paddler ignoring the call turns the boat. There is nothing to debate about it — the result is immediate and physical, which is exactly why it works with a group that has just met.

Grades, and what we actually run

Rivers are graded I to VI. Corporate groups run grade II-III: enough to be exciting, no technical skill required, and suitable for participants who cannot swim. Grade IV and above is not used for corporate organisations. If someone in your group has rafted in the Alps and expects grade IV water, set that expectation before the trip — the aim here is a descent everyone completes together, not a test.

Where the rivers are, and which airport you fly into

Turkey's rafting rivers sit in different regions and that decides your travel plan more than anything else. Köprüçay near Antalya is the one most incoming groups use, because Antalya has a large international airport with direct flights from much of Europe and the transfer inland is short. Fırtına in Rize and Munzur in Tunceli are in the north-east and east and need a domestic connection through Istanbul or Ankara. Melen in Sakarya is within driving distance of Istanbul. For a team flying in for two or three days, Antalya is almost always the answer, and we cover the Köprülü Canyon route on its own page.

How a day runs

  • Equipment issue. Buoyancy aid, helmet, paddle and, depending on season, a wetsuit.
  • Safety briefing. Commands, seating, what happens if you go in the water, rescue position. This section is never shortened, and it is delivered in English for international groups.
  • Dry run. Seated in the raft on the bank, repeating the calls.
  • The descent. Usually 1.5-2.5 hours including stops and a swim break.
  • Close. Showers, a meal, and handover of photos and video.

Season

April to October is the standard window. In early spring snowmelt raises the flow and the water is cold; wetsuits are mandatory in this period. In July and August the level drops and the descent is calmer — an advantage for inexperienced groups, and worth knowing if your company plans its offsites around the European summer rather than the shoulder seasons.

Mixed groups

Rafts are arranged rather than left to chance: non-swimmers sit near the guide, and rafts are balanced so no single boat carries all the nervous participants. For groups mixing colleagues from several countries this matters more than usual, because the people most unsure about the water are often the ones who have never had the chance to be on it.

Operational Safety, Equipment & Field Protocols

Employee safety is paramount across all our team building and sports experience operations. All technical gear (including CE and UIAA-certified helmets, harnesses, life vests, radios, or racing systems) meets stringent international safety benchmarks. Courses are facilitated by licensed instructors, federation trainers, and certified outdoor guides. Prior to activity commencement, comprehensive safety briefings are delivered, with certified first-aid paramedics stationed on site.

Customized Adaptation by Team Demographics

Every program is tailored to your team's age profile, physical readiness, and strategic objectives (such as cross-silo trust, problem solving, or decompression). Progressive difficulty tracks ensure even first-time beginners participate with confidence. Accommodating intimate executive offsites of 15 leaders up to company-wide festivals of 300+ delegates, simultaneous squad rotations guarantee seamless engagement.

Frequently asked questions

Do participants need to be able to swim?

No. Buoyancy aids are mandatory and on grade II-III routes non-swimmers take part safely. Swimming ability is asked at registration and those who cannot swim are seated near the guide. For international groups we collect this with the rest of the health declaration before travel, so raft allocation is settled before anyone arrives at the river.

What group sizes does it suit?

Six to eight people per raft. A group of 60 can go onto the water at once in eight to ten rafts, which also makes an inter-department raft race possible. This scales well for a company offsite where the whole group needs to do the same thing at the same time rather than rotating through stations.

Which rivers is it run on?

Köprüçay in Antalya, Fırtına in Rize, Munzur in Tunceli and Melen in Sakarya are the most used. The choice follows the group's location and the season. For teams flying into Turkey, Antalya is usually the practical answer because of direct international flights and a short inland transfer; Köprülü Canyon has its own programme page.

Who cannot take part?

People with cardiovascular conditions, epilepsy or serious back problems, and those who are pregnant, cannot participate. A health declaration is taken at registration. Age limits vary by operator and are generally 12 and over. For incoming groups we send the declaration ahead of travel so nobody discovers an exclusion at the riverbank.
