About Zumba

Zumba is the corporate dance format with the highest attendance, for a simple reason: no partner, no steps to memorise, no mistakes. The instructor stands at the front, the music starts, the group follows. Whoever misses a movement catches the next count; nobody watches anybody else because everybody watches the instructor. Not knowing how to dance, having no rhythm or being shy is not a barrier in this format — and it needs no shared language.

How a session runs

A 45–60 minute session is, in tempo and energy, a cardio class: six to eight tracks, three or four simple movements repeated in each, short transitions between them. Latin and pop music are mixed; the instructor adjusts the playlist to the group's age profile and, for an international group, its mix of music cultures. Warm-up and cool-down are included; for participants with lower fitness, the low-impact version of every movement is shown by the instructor at the same time.

Where it is used

  • Company festival and wellness day. A 45-minute station; the most crowded and most photographed part is usually Zumba.
  • Alongside partner-dance workshops. The no-partner corner running at the same time as a salsa or bachata session; it keeps participants reserved about partner dancing inside the programme — important where contact norms differ across a mixed group.
  • Weekly office programme. 45 minutes after work or at lunch, in a meeting room or open-plan area, for a local team; alternated with corporate fitness and pilates packages.
  • Meeting-day energy break. A 20-minute short version; because no change of clothes is needed it fits between sessions, with light sweat — including inside a hotel meeting day for a visiting group.

Zumba or hip-hop

Both have no partner. Hip-hop teaches a choreography and produces a showable output; it lands in young, energetic teams. Zumba teaches no choreography, it makes people follow; for wide-age teams with mixed fitness and many participants who say "I cannot dance", it is the safer choice. If undecided, start with Zumba; hip-hop can be the second event.

Venue and equipment

2.5–3 m² of flat floor per person; an open-plan office, a meeting room with tables moved aside, a hotel hall, outdoors. The sound system is ours; no equipment is needed. Trainers and comfortable clothing are recommended, but the 20-minute meeting-break version works in business dress. The floor can be carpet or parquet; on a slippery floor shoes are mandatory. The instructor teaches in English.

Fitness and health

Zumba carries a cardio load and makes people sweat. Because the low-impact version of every movement is shown at the same time, a participant with lower fitness continues at their own tempo, and the instructor states the "stop and rest" option openly. A health declaration is requested only for the weekly programme. A no-jump sequence is given separately to anyone with knee or back conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to know how to dance for Zumba?

No. No partner, no steps to memorise; the instructor stands at the front and the group follows. Whoever misses a movement catches the next count. That is why it has the highest attendance of any corporate dance format, and why it works across languages.

What about employees with low fitness or more years?

The low-impact version of every movement is shown by the instructor at the same time; everyone continues at their own tempo. A no-jump sequence is given to anyone with knee or back conditions. A health declaration is requested only for the weekly programme.

Can it be done at the office or in a hotel?

Yes. 2.5–3 m² of flat floor per person is enough; a meeting room with tables moved aside, an open-plan area or a hotel hall. No equipment is needed and the sound system is ours.

Can it be done between meeting sessions?

The 20-minute short version works in business dress with light sweat; it suits a meeting day as an energy break, including for a visiting group with no kit. The full 45–60 minute session needs sports clothing.

Zumba or hip-hop?

Both have no partner. Hip-hop teaches a choreography and lands in young teams; Zumba makes people follow and is safer for wide-age teams with mixed fitness. If undecided, start with Zumba.

How many people, and how long?

Up to 30 people per instructor, up to 60 with two. A full session is 45–60 minutes, the meeting-break version 20. At a company festival it is set up as a 45-minute station.
