About Spinning
Spinning's place in corporate programmes has less to do with the sport itself than with where it can be set up. The bikes come to the office; a meeting room, an open-plan area or a car-park level becomes a studio for 45 minutes. The travel barrier, the search for somewhere to change and the "it takes two hours to get there and back" excuse disappear. That is why it is one of the formats that produces the highest attendance in weekly office sports programmes.
Why spinning
- Joint-friendly. Unlike formats with running and jumping, the load on knees and back is low; safe for teams with a wide range of weight and age.
- Individual tempo. The resistance dial is in everyone's own hand; the instructor drives the group with the same music and commands while each person pedals at their own load. Fit and unfit sit side by side in the same session and nobody falls behind — which also means no shared language is needed beyond the instructor's cues in English.
- Measurable. Time, cadence and estimated distance are recorded every session; in a weekly programme the team's progress becomes visible.
Session structure
The standard 45-minute session: 5 minutes warm-up, 30 minutes of music-driven intervals (seated flat, standing climb, short sprints), 5 minutes cool-down and 5 minutes stretching. The instructor leads with a microphone; the music sets the tempo. A 30-minute short version fits a lunch break. Bike setup (saddle and handlebar height) is done by the instructor for every participant before the session — a wrong setup is the only cause of knee pain.
Format options
Single-day workshop: a station at a wellness day, company festival or health week; bikes set up in the morning, 45-minute sessions rotating through the day, cleared in the evening. This is also the version that works for a regional office hosting a wellness day for visiting colleagues. Short term (2–4 weeks): bikes stay at the office, two or three sessions a week; ideal for trialling a programme. Weekly programme: a fixed slot within the corporate fitness package for a local team; alternated with pilates and yoga it balances cardio, strength and flexibility.
Venue and infrastructure
2 m² per bike and a 2.4 m ceiling are enough; ten bikes fit a 25 m² meeting room. No electricity is needed (mechanical bikes), the sound system is ours. Floor-protection mats are laid. In offices without showers the session goes at the end of the day; for the lunch version a 30-minute low-intensity programme with reduced sweat is used. Ventilation is the critical factor; in small enclosed rooms the session is shortened.
Health
Spinning is a cardio load; a health declaration is requested in every format. Anyone with a heart condition does not take part without a doctor's approval. For knee conditions the standing-climb block is removed and the session continues seated at low resistance. Pregnancy in the second and third trimester requires a doctor's approval. All of this is reported to the instructor before the session and adjusted individually.
Frequently asked questions
Do the bikes really come to the office?
Yes. 2 m² per bike and a 2.4 m ceiling are enough; ten bikes fit a 25 m² meeting room. No electricity is needed, floor-protection mats are laid, the sound system is ours. Removing the travel barrier visibly raises attendance.
Can employees with low fitness join the same session?
Yes; the resistance dial is in everyone's own hand. The instructor drives the group with the same music and cues while each person pedals at their own load, and nobody falls behind. Because joint load is low it is safe for teams with a wide range of weight and age.
We have no showers. Does a lunch session work?
Yes; the 30-minute low-intensity version reduces sweat. The full 45-minute session goes at the end of the day. Ventilation is the critical factor; in small enclosed rooms the session is shortened.
What about knee or heart conditions?
A health declaration is requested in every format. Anyone with a heart condition does not take part without a doctor's approval. For knee conditions the standing-climb block is removed and the session continues seated at low resistance. Saddle and handlebar setup is done per participant by the instructor to prevent knee pain.
One session or a programme?
The single-day workshop is the wellness-day and festival station, and the version that suits a regional office hosting visiting colleagues. Over 2–4 weeks the bikes stay at the office and the programme is trialled. The weekly programme is a fixed slot for a local team within the corporate fitness package, ideally alternated with pilates and yoga.
How many people can take part?
As many bikes as the session has: 4–30. Above 30, sessions run back to back; at a wellness day, 45-minute sessions through the day reach 100+ people.
