Corporate Sailing Experience in Turkey (Türkiye): Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum and Antalya — Training, Sailing Days and Mini Skills Races
Sailing training, a sailing day, a mini skills race or a permanent company crew: we choose the right format and waters for your team and run the whole event.
Corporate sailing is a team event in which a group has to run one boat together: helm, jib, mainsail and tactics depend on each other, and the result of poor coordination shows within seconds. With an instructor on every boat, nobody needs to know how to sail. We set the format (training, sailing day, mini skills race, company crew), the waters (Istanbul, Çeşme, Bodrum–Gökova) and the flow of the day around your team, and run boats, safety, transfers and the ceremony end to end.

Corporate sailing: which format, which waters?
“Corporate sailing” is not one event but four formats. Two questions are enough to choose: is the team going to learn something or race? and do you want a one-off day or something ongoing?
The four formats compared
| Format | What happens | Duration | Right for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini sailing skills race | A short briefing and practice, then a friendly instructor-led race: tacking, manoeuvre and sail-trim tasks on a short course, simple scoring and an award ceremony | Half day (about 3.5 hours) or full day | Teams that enjoy competition and cross-department energy |
| Corporate sailing training | Hands-on from zero: safety, the boat, reading the wind, basic manoeuvres | 1–2 days | Teams working on leadership and coordination |
| Sailing day | No competition: sailing, a swim stop in a bay, lunch on board | Half or full day | Mixed-seniority groups and first-time sailors |
| Company sailing crew | Regular instructor-led training and periodic mini skills races | Seasonal | Companies wanting a permanent team and brand visibility |
An evening alternative: a sunset sail with dinner — the short format most often chosen for hosting international guests. Groups flying in from abroad can combine it with other cities; see corporate sports events in Turkey for international teams.
Which waters, which season?
| Area | Strength | Best format | Season |
|---|---|---|---|
| Istanbul: Kalamış, Fenerbahçe, Bosphorus | Short transfer from the office, fits a half-day programme, Bosphorus views | Half-day mini skills race, sunset sail, training | May–October |
| Çeşme | A predictable northerly summer breeze that builds towards midday and strengthens in the afternoon, so session times can be scheduled | Mini skills race, advanced training | May–October |
| Bodrum and Gökova | Sheltered water, low waves, many bays; low risk of seasickness | Sailing day, training, residential blue cruise | April–October |
April and May open the season before the marinas get busy; our spring sailing opening week is built for that window. In July and August programmes shift to early morning and late afternoon.
How many boats for how many people?
Our yachts are 38–45 feet, with 6–8 people per boat as the ideal crew. Every boat has an instructor.
| Participants | Boats | Suggested set-up |
|---|---|---|
| 4–8 | 1 | Training or a sailing day |
| 12–16 | 2 | Two-boat mini skills race or training |
| 30–40 | 5 | Several skills tasks on a short course, total points |
| 60–80 | 10 | Mini skills race in two groups |
| 120–150 | 18–20 | Skills tasks in groups and a shared award ceremony |
Safety and weather planning
The marine forecast is tracked 72, 48 and 24 hours before the event. If wind exceeds safe limits or the port authority closes the water, the pre-agreed backup date applies or the programme moves to an indoor format. Everyone wears a life jacket and gets a safety briefing before sailing. For general risk planning, see our weather and cancellation guide.

Sailing + lunch on the Princes’ Islands: a one-day programme for team communication
A programme we designed for a hybrid team, combining a sailing day with a meal on the Princes’ Islands. For confidentiality we do not name the client.
The brief
The HR team was clear: teams that meet in the office two days a week only talked to each other in meetings, and hand-offs between departments had shrunk to e-mail. They wanted an experience that would improve communication within the team and put departments to work on the same task — collaboration rather than competition.
The design
- Crews were mixed across departments, with no more than two people from the same unit on a boat.
- An instructor on every yacht; roles (helm, jib, mainsail, tactics) rotated under the instructor, and everyone took at least two roles.
- A shared goal instead of a race: all boats reaching Heybeliada together at an agreed time.
- Tables at lunch on the island were set by crew, so the conversation started at sea carried on at the table.
The day
- Transfer from the office to the marina, welcome and safety briefing; life jackets for everyone.
- Basic manoeuvres and role rotation with instructors off Kalamış.
- Sail to the islands, with short tacking and trim tasks on the way.
- Lunch and free time on Heybeliada.
- Sail back and close at the marina; team photos and thanks.
The result
The programme ran as planned; every participant took more than one role on board, and people from different departments worked in the same crew all day. Seating the lunch tables by crew kept the collaboration from the water going until the end of the day.
Weather plan: the marine forecast was tracked 72, 48 and 24 hours ahead, and a backup date had been agreed in advance.
Role on the boat → competency at work
What turns corporate sailing from a team outing into a development programme is that every role on board has a counterpart at work. Roles rotate under the instructor, so everyone is both giving and waiting for commands.
| Role on the boat | What it does on board | Counterpart at work | Debrief question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helm | Holds the course and calls the manoeuvre; confirms everyone is ready before the call. | Decision-making, ownership, clear instructions | How did you check the crew was ready before deciding? |
| Jib (headsail) | Releases and sheets in the sail at the right moment; timing depends on the helm’s call. | Coordination, timing, hand-offs | What did you do when the call came late or was unclear? |
| Mainsail trim | Adjusts the sail in small steps as the wind changes; most of the speed comes from here. | Continuous improvement, adjusting to feedback | Which signal told you it was time to adjust? |
| Tactics and course | Reads the wind and the course and gives the helm short, selected information. | Strategic thinking, simplifying and passing on information | What did you tell the helm, and what did you deliberately leave out? |
| Bow / lookout | Spots other boats, buoys and wind shifts early and calls them out. | Risk awareness, early warning, speaking up | Did you hesitate to call out a risk you had noticed? |
| Role rotation | Everyone takes at least two roles during the day. | Empathy, understanding another role’s load | What surprised you most in the other role? |
You can use these questions in your own team meeting after the event. In the training format roles are practised for longer; on a sailing day the rotation is kept short.
What a corporate sailing event includes
Format and course design
Training, sailing day, mini skills race or crew programme to fit the team’s goal; a short course and a rotation so everyone takes a role.
An instructor on every boat
An instructor who assigns roles, teaches the basic manoeuvres and leads the crew safely. Nobody needs sailing experience.
Short briefing, clear roles
A safety and role briefing before sailing; helm, jib, mainsail and tactics rotate within the crew.
Safety
Life jackets and a safety briefing before sailing; a wind decision time and a backup date.
Mini sailing skills race
Not an official regatta — a friendly instructor-led race built on tacking, manoeuvre and sail-trim tasks. A simple scoreboard, fair-play and best-teamwork awards.
Branding
Company flags on the boats, team vests and caps; photo and video coverage.
Ceremony and catering
Trophy and medal ceremony at the marina, catering or dinner.
Transfers and logistics
Transfers from offices and hotels to the marina; accommodation coordination outside Istanbul. Licensed travel agency (TÜRSAB A-12558).
How the proposal takes shape
Three lines drive the cost of corporate sailing: the number of boats, the duration and the area. That is why there are no prices on this page; the proposal is settled in three steps.
Headcount and format
Headcount sets the number of boats (6–8 per boat). Training, a sailing day or a mini skills race? Duration follows from that choice.
Area and date
Istanbul, Çeşme or Bodrum; date and backup date. In peak season, boat options are secured first.
Scope
Transfers, catering or dinner, branding, photo and video and accommodation are chosen line by line; the proposal states what is and is not included.
What drives the budget
When comparing proposals, check that each of these lines is listed separately. Instead of figures, we show what changes the cost and why; our proposal lists the same lines one by one.
| Line | What it covers | Effect on the budget |
|---|---|---|
| Headcount and boats | 6–8 people per boat; an instructor on every yacht. | The largest line, and it rises per boat rather than per person: every group beyond a boat’s capacity means another boat and instructor. |
| Duration | Half day (about 3.5 hours), full day or 1–2 days of training. | Boats and instructors are booked by the half or full day; a full day also covers a meal and rest break. |
| City and area | Istanbul, Çeşme or Bodrum–Gökova. | Transfers are short in Istanbul; Çeşme and Bodrum add travel, accommodation and a longer programme. |
| Season and day | April to October; weekday or weekend. | July–August and weekends are the busiest; boat options should be secured early. Spring, September–October and weekdays give more flexibility. |
| Transfers | Office or hotel to the marina, plus any island or restaurant leg. | Depends on the number of vehicles, distance and waiting time; drops out if you arrange your own transport. |
| Branding | Boat flags, team vests, caps and ceremony materials. | Varies with quantity and print method; printed items need the date confirmed in advance. |
| Food and catering | Refreshments at the marina, lunch on board, or a meal on the island or at a restaurant. | Depends on the menu and venue; listed as a separate line, or you can arrange it yourself. |
Moving to the backup date because of weather is planned with conditions written into the proposal in advance. Proposals can be issued in TRY, USD or EUR.
