About Laser Tag

Laser tag takes the tactical game of paintball and airsoft and makes it painless, contact-free and kit-free. An infrared tagger hits a sensor, the score is written automatically, nobody goes home with paint stains or bruises. Those three differences make laser tag the tactical game with the highest attendance: the HR team that says "no" to paintball usually says "yes" to laser tag — and a visiting delegation needs to bring nothing.

How the game works

Every participant gets a sensor vest and a tagger; the arena is a dark, obstacle-filled, hazy indoor space (the haze makes the infrared beam visible). Rounds of 10–15 minutes: team elimination, capture the flag, base defence, "VIP escort". Scores are calculated automatically per person and per team and shown on screen at the end of each round — there is no argument, "was I hit?" is answered by the sensor. A two-hour event has six to eight rounds. The event programme includes arena, equipment, a game master in English and a score report.

Why it is a team event

Laser tag has individual scores, but missions are won as a team: the flag is not carried alone, the base is not defended by one person. Two minutes of team planning happen between rounds and the game master deliberately forces it. The end-of-round scoreboard shows who played "hero" and who held position for the team; that is concrete material for a short debrief. Attendance is highest in young teams; but because no fitness is needed it works for wide-age teams too, and the missions need no shared language.

Arena or your venue

Arena: permanent laser tag arenas in shopping and entertainment centres in the big cities; 20–30 people at a time, obstacles and effects in place. One of the winter formats with no weather risk. Portable setup: with inflatable obstacles and portable equipment it is built in a hotel hall, a factory site, an open field or a large office floor; at a company festival or family day it becomes a rotating station for up to 60 people. Outdoors it plays in daylight too — infrared is affected by sunlight, but modern equipment tolerates it. At trade fairs and indoor events the VR battle-game station fits the same tactical experience into four square metres.

Clothing, safety and health

No change of clothes; it is played in business dress (the vest goes over it) and comfortable shoes are enough. That is what fits laser tag into a pre-dinner programme. Physical contact is forbidden; running is forbidden in the arena (fast walking), enforced by the game master. No health declaration is needed; a light-effects notice is given for epilepsy and effects are switched off if required. Sweat is low. There is no age limit; at a family day children play in the same team as adults.

Laser tag, paintball or airsoft

Paintball hurts, stains and needs overalls; tactical realism is highest. Airsoft does not hurt, but hits depend on the player's own honesty. Laser tag does not hurt, does not stain, needs no kit and scores automatically. For a team that says "we want a tactical game but everyone must join", laser tag; for a fit team that says "realism and adrenaline", paintball; for an HR team that says "let us see the honesty dynamic", airsoft.

Frequently asked questions

Does it hurt, and is there paint?

No and no. An infrared tagger hits a sensor; there is no physical contact, no ball, no paint. Nobody goes home with bruises or stains. That is why HR teams that say "no" to paintball say "yes" to laser tag.

Do we need to change clothes?

No; the vest goes over business dress and comfortable shoes are enough. Sweat is low. That is why it fits a pre-dinner programme and needs nothing from a visiting group.

How many people, and where?

6–60. In a permanent arena 20–30 at a time; with a portable setup up to 60 as a rotating station in a hotel hall, factory site, open field or large office floor. No weather risk in winter.

How is the score decided?

Automatically: the sensor records hits, scores are calculated per person and per team and shown on screen at the end of each round. There is no "was I hit?" argument. A score report is shared after the event.

Are there health restrictions?

No health declaration is needed; no fitness is required and running is forbidden in the arena anyway. A light-effects notice is given for epilepsy and effects are switched off if required. No age limit; at a family day children play with adults.

Laser tag or paintball?

For a team that says "everyone must join", laser tag; for a fit team wanting realism and adrenaline, paintball; for an HR team wanting to observe the honesty dynamic, airsoft. The three are different thresholds of the same tactical game.
