Overview

Curling is a team sport in which granite stones are slid towards a target on ice, and the reason it is chosen for a corporate event is its unfamiliarity: almost nobody in the group will have played it before. That resets the experience gap to zero — which is difficult to achieve with any sport people grew up watching.

Two roles, two kinds of contribution

The person sweeping the ice in front of the stone affects the outcome as much as the person who delivered it. Sweeping changes both speed and direction and is done on the skip's call. In a corporate group the meaning is this: a single talented player cannot decide the match. Communication and timing matter as much as the throw.

Why it reads as a strategy game

• Every stone opens or closes the path for the ones that follow; the positional logic resembles chess.
• The skip sets the target and the angle before each delivery, and the team discusses it.
• The score is calculated at the end of each end and is not open to argument.
• The pace is slow, which leaves room for talking and planning.

Physical demand

Curling has the lowest fitness threshold of the ice sports. The delivery position requires balance, but supports can be used; sweeping is a moderate arm and core effort. A wide age range can play in the same team, which makes this one of the few genuinely competitive activities that works for a senior group.

Availability, and why to book early

The number of facilities with a curling sheet in Turkey is limited and the programme is planned around their calendars. For an incoming group with fixed dates this is the constraint that binds: unlike most activities here, it cannot be arranged at short notice. Decide on it early or choose something else. Instruction takes about 30 minutes, after which teams start playing; the total programme is two to three hours.
