Corporate Half Marathon Team Training

A 12-week race preparation: a weekly training plan, group runs, and running a target half marathon together as a company team.
This is not a one-day running event but a process of preparing for a specific race. The goal is for a group of the company's employees to run the same half marathon, in the same shirt. The process takes 12 weeks, and that duration is not arbitrary — for someone who already runs regularly, safe preparation for 21 km takes at least that long.
The plan is built backwards from a race date. Turkey hosts half marathons and 10K city runs through the year; the target race is chosen with the team, and every participant registers through the race's own official channels — we do not sell race entries. What we run is the 12-week preparation, the group sessions and the race-day team logistics.
Corporate running teams almost always break up for the same reason: everyone tries to run together. The fast are bored, the slow are overwhelmed and both stop within a few weeks. The programme therefore divides participants into pace groups, each with its own target pace and run leader. The groups start in the same place and finish in the same place.
The most common problem in corporate running programmes is loading too fast out of enthusiasm. The plan is bound to a gradual progression rule and the weekly increase in distance is capped. A strength and flexibility section is built into the weekly plan; it is the most practical measure available for reducing knee and Achilles problems.
For someone starting from zero, 12 weeks is short and risky. For that profile the programme is built around a 10K target and the half marathon is left to the next cycle. For participants already running two or three times a week, 12 weeks is enough.
One group run a week is done together — usually a weekend morning or after work, on a city route or a coastal path. The other two runs are individual and participants fit the plan around their own schedule. This is what makes the programme workable across a site where people keep different hours.
One of the half marathons or 10K city runs held in Turkey during the year is selected and the 12-week plan is built backwards from that date. Race registration is done by each participant through the race's official channels; travel, kit and race-day team logistics can be planned within the programme.
The programme reduces the risk through gradual loading and a weekly strength section. If an injury occurs the participant is not removed from the plan; the distance target is lowered or they move to a support role on the race day team. A health declaration is taken before participation.
