Crisis Management Training: A Sport-Based Crisis Drill and Decision Rehearsal

Training that shows whether your crisis plan works under pressure, not just on paper: the team assigns roles, makes calls on unexpected developments and rehearses speaking with one voice.

Our crisis management training lets teams rehearse who decides what, how information flows and what is said externally when something unexpected happens. Participants experience this in the middle of a sports event crisis or a race, facing surprise developments. The programme runs with one facilitator and up to 30 people in a meeting room for 3–4 hours; in the close-out, teams identify the strengths and weaknesses of their own crisis plan.

Why does crisis management training need rehearsal?

Short answer: In a crisis, teams rarely fail for lack of knowledge; they suffer from unclear roles, delayed decisions and scattered communication. These three problems only become visible when rehearsed under pressure. That is why crisis management training works best as a realistic drill, not a lecture.

What does the training rehearse?

  • Roles: who leads the crisis, who runs operations, who speaks externally?
  • Decision speed: when do you decide on incomplete information, and when do you wait?
  • Information flow: how fast and how accurately does field information reach the decision table?
  • Crisis communication: a short, consistent statement with one voice.
  • Recovery: calming the team after the crisis and capturing the lessons.

What it does not replace

The programme is team competency training. It does not replace your formal business continuity plan, emergency and evacuation drills, or legal and corporate communications advice; it complements them. Findings from the close-out can be used to update your existing crisis plan.

Who is it for?

Boards and senior leadership, operations and facilities teams, corporate communications and customer service teams, project managers. For a need centred on performing under pressure, it can be paired with our stress management programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the crisis management training?
A single programme takes 3–4 hours in a meeting room. The crisis and risk readiness package can run as a full day with several programmes.
Are the scenarios specific to our sector?
Yes. The drill is built around a sports event or race, but the close-out is adapted to likely crises in your sector; scenario content is shared at proposal stage.
How many people can take part?
The standard format is one facilitator and up to 30 people. Larger groups run parallel crisis tables.
Does it replace a formal crisis exercise?
No. It is team competency training; it does not replace business continuity planning, emergency and evacuation drills or advisory services — it complements them.
How is the impact measured?
A short self-assessment on role clarity, decision speed and communication is taken at the start and end; findings and plan-update suggestions are reported to HR.
Can it be run just for senior leadership?
Yes. For leadership teams we prepare a smaller-group design focused on decisions and communication.
