A corporate step challenge is a voluntary movement programme in which employees log the steps they take with their phone or smartwatch over 2–6 weeks and work towards goals as individuals, teams or departments. The aim is not to find the person who walks the most, but to get as much of the company moving as possible — and to leave small habits that last after the challenge ends.
We run the design, the rules, the weekly leaderboard, internal communications and the kickoff and closing events; your company approves the dates and the participation announcement. For a detailed guide to the format, see how to run a workplace step challenge.
Many companies combine the two: teams compete with each other while the whole company's steps advance along a shared virtual route.
No specific app is required. The phone's built-in step counter, any smartwatch or fitness band and a simple pedometer are all accepted. Participants enter their daily step count in a short weekly form (with a screenshot if needed); there is a manual entry route for people without a device. If your company already uses a wellbeing platform, the challenge can also be set up on it.
Step data is personal data. Participation is therefore fully voluntary with no consequence for opting out; only the daily step count is collected (no heart rate, sleep or location); the privacy notice states which data is kept, why and for how long; leaderboards show nicknames or team results only; and once the challenge ends, personal data is deleted within the stated period and HR receives only anonymous, aggregated results — in line with Turkey's KVKK and GDPR-minded global policies.
A step challenge is not a wellness strategy on its own; it works best as part of a wider programme. For hybrid and multi-site teams, it is the component that connects people who cannot attend office pilates and yoga sessions. For a structured programme see corporate wellness programs, and to keep the momentum going after the challenge see corporate running team.
Approximate headcount, number of locations and departments, the share of hybrid/remote staff, preferred duration and start date, and the city and format of the closing event are enough. From these we itemise the rules document, calendar, communications plan and closing operation; there are no prices on this page because scope depends on headcount and the closing format.
It is a voluntary programme in which employees log the steps they take with a phone or smartwatch over 2–6 weeks and work towards goals as individuals, teams or departments. It runs with a kickoff, a baseline week that does not count, a weekly leaderboard and a closing walk or run day.
Four weeks is the right balance for most companies. Two weeks suits a first try or an awareness week but is short for building a habit; six weeks is for programmes aiming at habit, with theme weeks and mini-rewards added in the middle weeks.
No specific app is required. The phone's built-in step counter, any smartwatch or fitness band and a simple pedometer are accepted; daily steps are entered in a short weekly form. There is a manual entry route for people without a device, and if your company uses a wellbeing platform the challenge can run on it.
It is designed to be: part of the score rewards improvement against one's own baseline, there is a daily cap and the number of goal days is counted. For people whose walking is limited, or who swim or cycle, active minutes are converted to steps; averages are not penalised during pregnancy, injury or leave.
Participation is voluntary and only the daily step count is collected — no heart rate, sleep or location. The privacy notice and consent step are prepared with your data protection officer, nicknames can be used on the leaderboard, and at the end personal data is deleted and HR receives only anonymous, aggregated results.
Yes — that is the format's greatest strength. The challenge runs regardless of location; in the virtual-route format, offices in different cities and remote staff advance together on the same map. The closing event takes place at the main location, and simultaneous local walks can be arranged for other sites.
